OMG... I sold it. O_O The car, I mean. About three hours ago. For $750. Not to either one of the guys who had seen it last week, btw. To a completely different person, who emailed me yesterday. He said in the email he could pay $800, so I wrote him back saying I am supposed get back to someone who wants to pay $700 on Monday afternoon, and that's what I am going to do unless he can show up by 2 p.m. to see the car and make his final decision. So, he did.:) Luckily, I had scheduled a vacation day today to give myself some time for errands, cooking and stuff - since I spent all of yesterday home with my parents. So, the guy called me in the morning and we arranged to meet, and I spent a few hours going crazy because it took him forever to get here, and I was positive that by the time he shows up, the other guy (who wanted to pay me $700, and whom I was supposed to call by 2:30) will change his mind, and then this one will say he doesn't like the car after all, and I will be left with nothing. But he did show up eventually, and seemed impressed with the car - possibly because he is very young, and at that age ANY sort of vehicle means a measure of independence from your parents.;) Seriously - he couldn't have been more than 20... perhaps younger. He came with his mom, btw - who also looked young enough to be his sister, lol. They were both very nice, and nearly as clueless in automotive matters as I am.:P So they didn't ask any questions I was unable to answer. They seemed happy enough to see that the car is running and doesn't look like it might fall apart any second (whether it indeed won't do that is another matter - but, luckily for me, I won't be around to find out...:P). The boy had a big smiley face when he said he'd pay me $750, and I said fine. He had the cash with him, and I had the car title with me just in case, so it went really fast. We signed the title transfer, shook hands and he drove off. Then he called me about 30 minutes later, saying that he can't start the car, because the key gets stuck in the ignition. Which does happen sometimes. I told him to just shift it around a bit and that it will start eventually (it always has before, at any rate... LOL). And I hope it did, since he hasn't called again. I am still a little panicky, half-expecting a call to the effect of: "Hey, lady, this car no good, I want my money back" - but other than that, I feel strangely relieved. Liberated. Unburdened. I no longer have to worry about available parking spaces or sudden middle-of-the-road breakdowns - or about the price of gas, insurance and repairs. All I have to worry about is dragging my ass to the bus stop early enough if I want to get somewhere on time... LOL.
Btw, I went to the bank right away to deposit most of the cash - and I thought my bank's closest branch was located right by the north terminal of the closest north-south bus route... but after getting off the bus I realized that it's still at least two looong blocks to the north. LOL. So I took an unplanned longish walk, which I can already feel in my thigh muscles.;) My physical fitness level is sooo going to improve now... whether I like it or not.:P
Anyway... I still have cooking to do tonight, so that's it for now. Not sure how often I'll be posting over the next few weeks, since I need to start going to bed a little earlier and getting up around 6:30 instead of 7:00 (a public transportation morning commute to work with two transfers takes twice as long as a drive does, unfortunately; in the evening, though, it's more or less the same due to rush hour traffic and the time I usually spend looking for a parking spot). And I expect it might take me a while to adjust to that. But we shall see. I'll try to take it one day at a time.:P
