do you know that bread and potatoes still prevail in an average household in Poland? We still eat sandwiches twice a day
That doesn't surprise me. It's hard to break out of a lifelong habit, especially if it's one that everybody around you seems to be following without question. Over here, nearly everybody eats burgers and fries, or "dinner rolls" served along with a full plate of pasta or potatoes. Which is basically adding starch to more starch. *sigh*
Of course, there are different kinds of bread, some of which can be good for you. But it's a challenge to find the "good" bread here. Most grocery stores only sell the horrible, moist, spongy kind that grows even heavier in your stomach after you eat it... *shudder*
And what's your opinion on meat? Do you eat meat anyway? In our crazy times everything seems harmful, together with milk and dairy products too:P
I do eat meat - but not much. Mostly chicken and fish. I really love seafood - which is unfortunate, since I just read that pretty much all fish & seafood these days is chock-full of mercury.:/ Not to mention the fact that most methods of harvesting it are highly unethical and destructive to the environment.:(
I try to avoid chicken from huge factory farms, if possible. I am toying with the idea of becoming vegetarian at some point... but I need to find out more about non-animal sources of protein, as well as expand my repertoire of vegetarian dishes, so that I don't feel like I'm following the same five or so recipes over and over.:)
Yes, some nutritional experts advise against dairy products... but that's probably the one thing I just can't see myself completely eliminating from my diet (along with fresh or dried fruits, despite their high sugar content). I just bought organic milk for the first time, though.:)
